I wrote this for our Church’s newsletter for Reformation Day (31 Oct 2013).

Reformation

 When Luther nailed his theses onto that Wittenburg door,
The face of Christianity was changed forevermore.
His excommunication was meant to do him harm;
Instead he brought the Scriptures to every town and farm.

The truth of Law and Gospel was finally brought to light,
In the language of the people, God’s Word could now shine bright.
And so we gladly celebrate this Reformation Day,
Remembering Martin Luther, as he boldly led the way.

Luther faced great evil from within the Church’s ranks,
And for his stand on Scripture, we joyfully give thanks.
But even now more evil is enveloping our nation,
So let us pray and work today for another Reformation!
